Up and running!
All right, the game is complete! It took about 4 weeks to code, in time for the game jam "make something horrible 2019" - a very quick development which explains that the graphic quality and plot are substancially below my usual standards. Anyway, it was fun to code and I hope it will be fun to play.
Now, for the history experts among you: yes, there are historical inaccuracies.
- Roza Shanina was not fighting in Stalingrad - Tania Chernova was, but I did not find a photography of her. But, well, Roza Shanina rules anyway.
- Natalya Meklin did fight in Stalingrad, but she piloted a Polikarpov Po-2 - the icon on her portrait displays a Petliakov Pe-2 because it looks better. Maria Dolina did pilot a Pe-2 though, and I had good pictures of her too, but she fought on the Baltic front. Oh well, sue me.
- The "Boevaya Podruga" was not Aleksandra Samusenko's T-34 but Maria Oktiabrskaïa's - but the pictures I had of her were not very good and I had an excellent picture of Samusenko. So, here goes.
So, will you ask me, why are all allies women? Because I was rather displeased with the very ahistorical "damsel in distress" role they gave to the character of Tania Chernova in Jean-Jacques Annaud's movie, and I wanted to somehow pay my respects to the real fighters, male and female, who defeated nazism. Plus, maybe an idle gamergater will give me some free bad buzz.
P.S. The sound of the Mosin-Nagant fire is not really that of a Mosin-Nagant. I could have had one but it was rather expensive to buy, and it's, like, just a game jam...
